3 Things To Do If You Chip Your Tooth
If you fall and chip your tooth, you want to get it fixed as soon as possible. It doesn't look good. The longer you leave the damage, the more damage can happen, and the sharp edges of the chip can hurt your tongue and cheeks. So, if you do fall and chip a tooth, what should you do?
Swish Your Mouth
The first thing that you should do is to rinse your mouth out with some warm water. That will help clean any dirt in your mouth out. You don't want to leave any of that dirt in your mouth because it can cause infections. If you are worried, you can use a saltwater mixture and swish your mouth out with that. If you have any cuts in your mouth or the chip is a deep one, this can be a good idea. Make sure that you do one rinse with just water when you are done with the saltwater. This would also be a good time to stop any bleeding that may have happened.
Find the Chip
Once you have stopped any bleeding and rinsed your mouth out, you want to look for the chip of your tooth. If and when you find it, you want to wrap it up in a piece of gauze and put it in something that will protect it. Your dentist may be able to use that chip to repair your tooth, so it's a good thing to take it with you. If it has any dirt on it, you might want to rinse it off under a gentle stream of water. If you do that, make sure that you keep a tight hold on it or block off the drain so that if you do drop it, the chip won't fall down the drain.
Call the Dentist
You need to call a dentist to get in to see them as soon as possible. If you can't see your own dentist, then you should find an emergency dentist to see if you can see them. You don't want to put off getting dental care any longer than you possibly have to.
When you fall and chip your tooth, you want to make sure that you are doing everything you should to have the best chance of having a good repair done. If the damage is too bad, then you may have to have the tooth replaced instead of just being repaired.
